Hello.
Let’s start with the name.
I have called myself a “Proud Pronoun” for many years. Pronouns represent nouns—which are people, places, things, and ideas. As a professional, I’ve represented many nouns (and connected them with other nouns); Ideas-Execution. Brands-Audiences. Media-Consumers. Products-Buyers. Companies-Missions. People-Other people…
So, PROnoun is the most accurate description of not only what I do professionally, but more importantly—why I do it. There are a handful of things that I was gifted to do, but representing and making connections (through storytelling) is top of the list.
“Curious” has dual meaning (literally, look it up).
First, I am a perpetually curious guy. Have been all my life. Exploring, investigating, critically thinking, and most of all, observing and processing the world around me is the fuel that my pronoun storytelling runs on. (*Be warned: my vehicle runs on a hybrid of British dark-twisty & Irish irreverence octane.)
Once you’ve engaged with me for at least a minute you’ll pick up that I also personify the second definition of curious, which is simply: “Strange; unusual.” I’m an exceptional social chameleon after years as an Army brat, Naval Veteran, and consultative seller—but once I open my mouth or start pounding keys, the jig is up.
For example: I’m known to drop appropriate movie lines at any given moment (in character), break into spontaneous a cappella song at company dinners, use humorous analogies whenever humanly possible, start GIF wars in team chats, etc.
After investing many years helping my clients and companies establish and execute on brand, blogs, and all of the marketing bells and whistles, I’ve finally taken time to start my own personal blog …thus, the cobbler’s kid reference. It’s long overdue and hopefully it will force me to be more intentional with sharing my perspectives (vs my typical “drive by” commentary).
What you can expect in my posts here…
No set or strategic word count. If I have a lot to say, I’ll say it—but I also love being in my Mad Men zone and dropping succinct “mic drops” (or “concussion grenades” as a good friend and fellow wordsmith leader likes to say).
No single topic. I will write about marketing, content, brand, and other best practices from my professional learnings—but I’ve also always wanted to be a film critic, and often pondered publishing a serial work of fiction in sequential blog posts. WHO KNOWS?!! (I never know what I’m thinking until I write it.)
No ranting …much. There is ample content being algorithmically fed to you if you want your personal point of view supported. I’m not here to stoke any fire or snipe at those I disagree with. If something is chapping my backside, or has me losing sleep at night, I may get on a soapbox for a moment of self-indulgent pleading from time to time—but when my foot inevitably ends up in my mouth and I become aware of it, I always own it, and make appropriate apologies as is humanly appropriate.
Bottom line, I have finally invested in my own channel, so I’ll share what floats my Rowe Boat (trademarked) and then we can see what we find in common.
Assuming anyone finds their way here organically, of course. 🙂
Sláinte!
